Den

Wednesday, November 4th, 2009

We are still getting used to the new caigslist danish sofa in the den and I think I’m starting to really LOVE it. It is very, very, very low and not made for the comfort of tall peeps. For us mid-height folks its perfectly lovely. Much more comfy and loungy than the stiff white sofa.

Slowly, I’d like to find a few new (well old, come on all my crap is old) pieces for the den. Perhaps a marble coffee table, white cowhide rug, maybe a new chair…did someone say Safari, Larsen, or something a little more leather and chrome?

For now the den is functional. It’s the little oasis in middle of the chaos of the guest bedroom remodel (but crap is starting to creep in there as well. ugh.). The house is strewn with furniture, art, tools, dust and random linens and shiz I haven’t seen in years that all need organizing or donation. I don’t know how couples make it through MAJOR remodels, the chaos is just so depressing.

Even with all our extra stuff there is still a lack of a few perfect pieces needed in the guest bedroom decorating extravaganza. Headboard, dresser, lights, rug….ect.

Does the shopping ever end? Do I want it to?

No.

Faux Brick

Before.

After!

(In progress with wood patch and Drylok paint)

After.

The Boy ended up resolving the large mailbox hole issue by inserting and affixing a large chunk of wood in the hole and painting it with Drylok. Then he hand sculpted a faux brick (with mortar lines and everything) out of cement patch.

Now we just need to seal it with our exterior mortar sealer / primer and paint the entire exterior of the house. But first we have to decide on an exterior color.

He also drywalled and mudded the interior wall to close that big scary gap. Hooray! It’s a solid wall again.

BTW: It’s already painted. (As is most of the guest bedroom)…oh no, the suspense…

Orchid

Monday, November 2nd, 2009

I got my first ever orchid from Fresh and Easy. Have you tried that place? They seem like they are popping up everywhere in California. We like the simplicity, the self checkout and low low prices and tend to go there frequently for the basics. It’s the closest thing to a Trader Joe’s that we have in awful Hemet. I really miss Trader Joe’s

The thing is F&E has some rocking coupons. On our last visit we got $20 off of a $100 grocery bill and this $9.99 orchid as a bonus. I hear orchids can be a bit finicky, so I’m not sure how long this little dude will last in the bathroom.
