Vignette

Wednesday, June 17th, 2009

All the June gloom has made me a little stir crazy…and when I get stir crazy I usually get to vignetting. Much to the Boy’s frustration.

I’ve got a lot of stuff and I like to move it around.

Also, I wanted to incorporate some of the new thrifty things I found to see if they fit in the house or if they need to get on the Etsy train.

Below is the tension shelf unit in the den before.

And here it is AFTER the vignette storm.

So, why do I crop the tension shelves so close and always justify to the right?

Oh, because of this big hole.

Shizzz. We gotta fix that.

Thrifty!

Score.

I just had one of those rare crazy awesome thrifting days. I don’t know what I want to keep and what I want to hock at the old etsy store.

Decisions, decisions…

I also got a pair of Steve Madden wedges and these rad navy Town and Country heels that fit my huge size 10 feet. For $2 for each pair they were an awesome deal.

A full wipe down with white vinegar and a shot of Lysol does the disinfecting trick, some peeps use rubbing alcohol as well. Just a tip for all of you who just got massive willies about wearing thrift store shoes.

Planter

Ghetto.

Less ghetto.

We are almost finished priming the house. ALMOST.

Its been about three months of just patching and priming…we haven’t started putting the real exterior paint on. I think in about a year we will have the house mostly painted.

I worked today weeding, patching and priming the big front planter. I’m trying to decide on how to landscape the newly cleaned up beauty. I think we are putting gravel or river rock as a base and then possibly barrel cactus / agave / flax (I really don’t know what yet) in a really modern repetitive line. I dream of a wall of papyrus or maybe a nicely trimmed horsetail reed wall…but those SUCK UP water like crazy, so they are a no no. I saw some AWESOME kangaroo paw at the nursery that I definitely want to go somewhere…they may be an option.

We should probably build the horizontal cedar privacy screen on the front porch and finish painting before breaking out the live plants that would most likely die from neglect and weeds.

So I wouldn’t recommend holding your breath to see greenery. We can’t seem to finish anything lately. *Remember the pink bathroom? Oh yeah, that project is pretty much stalled indefinitely. Poop.

I’m going to change this blog to The Ghetto House.
