Ebay

Thursday, August 13th, 2009

My thrifting schedule has really taken a nosedive over the summer and I’ve been supplementing my vintage fix with ebay. Ahhhhhh ebay – you naughty filthy little temptress.

I got a Ralli quilt! Why? Who knows…its 100 f*cking degrees out.

I picked up one shock mount for one of the newly restored dining chairs. Functional, not that exciting.

I got a Panton Flower Pot lamp for under $30. I have no idea where I’ll put it, but I’ve always loved these lamps. Thats a nice sales picture right? Are you surprised it was mislabeled in the listing…hehe.

My new Dansk cutting board with knife. I haven’t had an actual cutting board in over two years. Ridiculous. So I’ve been on the hunt for vintage cutting boards for a few weeks and I think this one would be great for cutting up limes or lemons for cocktails. Now I need a big one…

Hmmm. I bought this lamp but lets see if I end up getting it.

I’ve been attempting to contact the shipper about this shipping invoice they sent for like $30 – which is INSANE. I ship stuff dude and this shouldn’t cost more than $15 to send. I’ve sent 3 emails and I’ve gotten…oh…none back.

This does not bode well for my $9.99 yellow lamp.

OMG.

love love lovvee lovvvvve love love LOVE.

Quite possibly the first house tour that NAILS the exact style I’d love to somehow accomplish on my minuscule budget. The depressing thing about the article is they list the prices for everything the couple picked up on ebay and 1st Dibs. And yes the costs are outrageous for us normal folks – but I guess “Low-Maintenance Living” for the fabulous.

F*cking rich people.

“We didn’t want to come to a getaway home for a weekend away and have to worry about nicks and scratches,” he added. “We wanted something compact, efficient and casual.”

Casual at $700,000 for a “getaway house” with a $1,300 Hermès blanket and $3,500 wall sconce. Ugh. Casual my ass.

I COVET this house and the expensive vintage objects inside it. Poor people can imagine their rich life so readily – and I can acutely imagine myself partying down there, totally unconcerned about the $5,000 floor lamp.

Touching base

Looks like we got ourselves a little project a-brewing!

I sold the old dining room tulip chairs in order to fund the purchase of six brand spanking new Eiffel bases. I picked them up today and couldn’t be happier.

I found a well priced source via ebay that was AMAZINGLY located just about an hour away from The Brick House. Instead of paying for shipping I just drove over and picked up a set of six black Eiffel bases. They sellers seem like a nice small business that manufactures all sorts of different styles of Eames bases including a selection of wide mounts, rockers, cats cradle and other bent wire based furniture products.

The WEIRDEST thing was that this Ebay seller was located right across the street from my family’s recently defunct boat business. *SPOOKY*

At least I got to stop by and say hello to my mom.

This set is going to be so f*ing awesome.

A little wet sanding, shock mount repositioning and Penetrol rub down and we should be in business.

*BTW*

Posting will probably be very lite round the old Brick House bloggity. Buying chair bases is how I just spent my one day off of work this week…and I’ve had 3 days off (total) since June.

Ugh.

I’m getting crazy withdrawal from not visiting any thrift stores in over a month. When is September coming again? Oh man, this is going to be a lllllloooooonnnnggggg summer.
