Marimekko

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

I picked up a pair of Marimekko pillows from the Crate & Barrel outlet at Cabazon. They were $18 each and I sure love to snuggle up on the couch with them while watching some television. BTW – I am officially obsessed with Freaks & Geeks, and don’t know how I missed out on that show till now! Thank you Netflix for ruining any productivity I once had.

All in all I’m super late on participating in cultish trends, be it TV or fabric.

The den.

We spend almost ALL of our time in here and it is the hardest area to photograph, needs tons of work and has the worst light and layout in the whole house. BUT dude, this is where the cable lives…and its close to the kitchen…so heaven.

Oh, and I started using my little Brown Saltman tables (that got pushed out of the bedroom) instead of the long coffee table.

Yes or no?

I’m not sure what kind of coffee table to put in the den. It has become apparent that a large / long table just doesn’t functionally work in this space. I love the flexibility of two tables but I’m not totally convinced these are the right pair. Like I want something a little less mid century but not super modern and says “WOW, I’m a rad and unexpected coffee table.”

Google isn’t really helping.

The BIG Eames reveal

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

Yes. A million times YES.

Hotness.

My set of six parchment Eames chairs are finally restored! From school chair to dining, they are my dream dining set fully realized.

In terms of cost the entire restoration project ran about $500. Yikes.

I bought:

-Six black reproduction Eiffel bases (the big ticket item!)
-Wet and dry sandpaper
-JB Kwick Weld epoxy
-Penetrol
-Small hand sander.

The actual Eames chairs were a free find (Thanks Maya!) and needed a lot of labor to restore them. Totally worth the itchy fiberglass.

I sold my old dining set of six tulip chairs in order to fund the project and couldn’t be happier with how it all turned out.
