Ikea

I am addicted to finding the right linens for the master bedroom, but I fail time and time again. The process of how to dress a bed that looks inviting and casual is a huge mystery to me. I can’t seem to get that right look and have gone through numerous sets of duvets in search of it.

Ikea sucked me in yet again promising that the BLÅSIPPA dark gray duvet would solve all my bedroom issues.

The BLÅSIPPA turned out to be a dog drool magnet. Iggy DROOLS like crazy for a little tiny dog and was super offended that I woke him up to make the bed for a couple of shots.

I tried to grab a shot of his drool puddle before it dried but failed. This pic doesn’t really do justice to the size and quantity he left.

The gray of the BLÅSIPPA is nice but has a bit of a sheen and purple undertone that isn’t working out the way I hoped. So the hunt will continue for something more along these lines…

Name That Art

I used to play this game called Name That Art. I would look through fancy pictures of fancier homes with my art savvy friends and try to name all the art installed on the walls and guess how much they paid. It can be very hard, but always pretty satisfying. I happened upon the above picture in my DESIGN! desktop folder that I always plop inspiring pics into and was shocked to see this John Currin painting so casually installed above the sofa.

I’m surprised that this painting didn’t end up in a better looking room. I mean, that painting is worth some DOLLARS. This room just seems a little underwhelming and uninspiring in terms of art placement and frankly totally WEIRD. What is up with the sad little framed drawing next to it that’s too thin and crooked to be symmetrical and then the installation of the big painting behind the green lamp? There is symmetry everywhere else in the room but the art installation. It’s just so awkward. Plus that saggy white sofa, off-white walls and molded plastic Eames knock-offs aren’t doing anyone any favors. It’s nice, but all in all a bit blllllaaahhhhh. Even the zebra rug looks like it just sort of gave up.

Maybe its not the real painting.

But we all know that little Mr. Marc Jacobs has the real deal.
Fucker.

I dare you to Name all that Art. Come on, this one is easy….

Circa50

The truly amazing folks at Circa50 heard my cry of desperation for beautiful well-fitting leather Hardoy Butterfly Chair (or BKF) covers. The first covers I purchased on ebay were a total and complete disaster. I returned them immediately after unpacking and was disappointed by how ill-fitting they were on my vintage butterfly frames as well as how chintzy the canvas material ended up being.

THANK GOD for Circa50. Their slings are extremely well made and they offer a huge range of colors, material and sizes. That’s probably why I constantly see people using Circa50 as a resource around blogs, in magazines, at friends houses and on flicker all the time. AND they supply chairs to The Parker (Palm Springs), Thunderbird Hotel (Marfa, TX), as well as other awesome hotels. Their website also has a nice history and production rundown on the BKF chair which I found super informative.

But come on! The Parker and Thunderbird? Those are two of my favorite design savvy hotels. I drooled all over that outdoor circle of butterfly chairs around the fire pit at the Parker and wanted to someday recreate that look in my backyard. Now I know the secret…
