Once you go black…

We’re still finishing it all up, but that wall is definitely black.

I smell decorating brewing and it smells mmm mmm musty. Like a thrift store…

Desert Homes

November 4th, 2009

(all via Dwell)

We have all the negatives of living in the desert – heat, lack of water, dust, crazy people, meth, spiders and lizards – but none of the pluses – wide open views, privacy, floor to ceiling windows, big dark night skies, that special desert smell, and modernist architecture.

I’m desperately dreaming of building a modern boxy house somewhere isolated in the Southern California desert. Near enough to Palm Springs that we can still go to dinner and thrifting and be a little on the grid. I guess the possible “murdered where no one can hear you scream” factor would be hard to deal with…but hey, it’s probably more likely I’d get hit by some tricked out music blasting truck in front of my suburban house. And my views suck.

Den

November 4th, 2009

We are still getting used to the new caigslist danish sofa in the den and I think I’m starting to really LOVE it. It is very, very, very low and not made for the comfort of tall peeps. For us mid-height folks its perfectly lovely. Much more comfy and loungy than the stiff white sofa.

Slowly, I’d like to find a few new (well old, come on all my crap is old) pieces for the den. Perhaps a marble coffee table, white cowhide rug, maybe a new chair…did someone say Safari, Larsen, or something a little more leather and chrome?

For now the den is functional. It’s the little oasis in middle of the chaos of the guest bedroom remodel (but crap is starting to creep in there as well. ugh.). The house is strewn with furniture, art, tools, dust and random linens and shiz I haven’t seen in years that all need organizing or donation. I don’t know how couples make it through MAJOR remodels, the chaos is just so depressing.

Even with all our extra stuff there is still a lack of a few perfect pieces needed in the guest bedroom decorating extravaganza. Headboard, dresser, lights, rug….ect.

Does the shopping ever end? Do I want it to?

No.
