Yes

I think I want this.

MASKROS – please come to the USA soon. I’m tired of waiting to see you in person.

Super Design

I’m not sure if when I see it in person I will think it looks too “whimsical” and turn me off completely or if I will love the complicated delicate globe.

Everyone around the blog-o-sphere (I hate that term)* has been hyping this IKEA PS line for soooo long. I just want to see it! I’m worried that this light might just scream IKEA and be everywhere…

On that note, a little story.

I had a cop come into my house (don’t ask) and Officer Snodgrass (seriously) said, “Someone sure likes Ikea” the minute she walked in the front door. The thing is – there was only 1 item from Ikea in the whole house and it was the Stockholm Rand Rug which does scream Ikea. Like all that time I spent vintage hunting and scouring California for reasonably priced MCM furniture boiled down to it ALL being “from Ikea”. Just because of that one giant rug.

Thats why I want to replace it.

* to clarify: I also hate random parenthesis – but I still do it. I know I’m a stupid hypocrite.

Office Arty Party

May 28th, 2009

I wish I had a whole room dedicated to just being a home office – how luxurious that would be. Instead our built in office desk shares space with the den. I guess having a den is pretty fab though.

I hate the metal task lamp hardwired above the desk. It cooks my computer when turned on (like a heat lamp). We never use it so I thought I would just rip it out.

Oops. Its gone.

Now that its gone I don’t quite know what to do to cover up the hole. So I thought…ART.

Well all art options look kind of crappy. Its like the scale and shape is off. I’m not sure what to do to hide the old hole and make the desk area snazzy.

This mystery calls for inspiration…

Shelves could work…maybe. Seems a little treacherous in earthquake country, especially over my most beloved piece of technology.

I want a Bertoia chair cover. Oh, and an awesome window.

(April issue of Ladies Home Journal)

Mirror? I think that one is kind of ugly…but maybe something rectangular?

A bearskin would cover it. I guess guns would make it all in good taste.

Uggghhh. What should I do with that hole?
(thats what she said)

Ebay

May 27th, 2009

Normally I’m an Etsy kind of girl, but sometimes I stray over to Ebay to pick up a few things I can’t seem to find thrifting. I really hate the whole bidding process (I’m so impatient and it stresses me out) but if you stick with it sometimes you can get a great deal.

Mid Century Adjustable Candle Holder
$14

I’ve been dying for an adjustable accordion candle holder for my coffee table. This one expands to about 3 feet and is 11 inches tall. I’m waiting patiently for it…

Vegetable Afghan Kilim Rug (10×3 ft)
$20.50

This is a victim of the great Kilim (or is it Kelim?) hunt. Finally, I got one – its going to be a runner for the entryway.

This is really turning into a blog about shopping and I am the worst guilty consumerist. I did the whole Mint thing to track my spending…yikes. Over the last 3 months I spent the same amount on vintage crap for my house as I have on my mortgage. I always thought I was pretty thrifty…but it I guess it adds up. At first it looked like I was super charitable since all the thrift store shopping got listed as “Charity”. I fixed that and now my pie chart just looked like two big dueling colors: Mortgage vs. Shopping.

I need to go on a better savings plan. If I want to do any big ticket renos (which really I don’t, its probably not worth it in the long run in my neighborhood) thats going to be the only way without going into more debt.

Poop. Being fiscally responsible sounds boooooring.
