Thrifty!

June 26th, 2008

I had a small break from the madness that has overtaken my work life (or what allows me to pay for that demanding bi-och – The Brick House). I stopped by my 2 favorite thrift stores in town and found a few things…

Angel View Thrift – $3.99. Lemon and odd perspective teapot still life. The yellow frame sold me.

Salvation Army – $3.55. Ceramic owl with shiny hypnotizing green eyes. Sexy.

Salvation Army – $4.65 and $3.55. Some more vintage planters.

Angel View Thrift – $12 each. Pair of office chairs from 1963 – according to the tag. I like the walnut armrests and the chrome back that allows the backrest to lean a bit. The fabric is nubbly and in really good shape. They are a little cold and officy but I like the clean lines and the rust color.

Here they are with the newly painted fireplace. Look at those floors shine! We are still waiting for the couch from EQ3 to arrive and they promise it will be this week or next. Promises, promises…I want to use my living room…

Needlepoint madness

June 23rd, 2008

I was going through and organizing some of my thrift store needlepoint collection and thought that the den/office could be a fun place to install it…

Below is some close-up action:

Oh yeah. Good god…that is a lot of bad needlepoint.

So hopefully as I collect I can add to the ever expanding collection (there is still more hidden in my guest room) and wrap them around the room or something along those lines – I just don’t want it to be overwhelming scary needlepoint room. I’m starting to think that the walls should be painted a color above that awful wainscoting….oh please no more paint. ever.

I’m so tired of painting.

Fireplace…update.

June 22nd, 2008

Well. Yeeeeeeaaaaaahhhhhh.

I was super into those dark fireplaces so I got a couple of colors. The top is Glidden “Obsidian Glass” and the bottom is Behr “Dark Cavern”.

I thought the bottom color was too brown and freaked out and the Boy voted for the top “Obsidian Glass”. I must have been tired and agreed with him…

Even though I said its way too blue…

And it was.

I HATED it. So I painted over it with the Behr “Dark Cavern” in a semi-gloss.

I like it a lot more. Its dark and neutral but warm. Next is the mantel though, still hating that stupid f*ing mantel.

BEFORE paint and AFTER paint…like 4 coats…oh well, the brick is dead.
